Listen Up Foundation

About

The Listen Up Foundation works towards providing equal access for deaf people in Bulgaria. The Foundation received not only the Best Business Plan Award for NGOs awarded by the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law, but also is the winner of the competition “The Change” of Nova TV and the Reach for Change Foundation. The project is dedicated to the development of an online platform and integration in schools and universities, providing equal access to quality education for deaf children and youths, which will lead to a fulfilling and happy life.

Why does ISTA Con support Listen Up?

Because the Listen Up Foundation is an innovative organisation where there is a team of creative and big-hearted people working hard to provide equal access to information using the information technologies.

One of the main aims of the Foundation is to bring change to the attitudes in society towards deaf people, and to support them to feel proud with their unique identity, culture and language.

Why Listen Up?

Many members of the Foundation’s team are deaf and they are well aware of the challenges that a deaf person faces in the hearing society. They also understand the need and the importance of equal access to information and communication because they have lacked it need over the years. They are motivated to bring in foreign experience in the area of equal access for deaf people. The Listen Up Foundation has a team of the best sign language interpreters who work for the online platform for sign language services, and the service is free for deaf people.

Why is this important for us?

The truth is that deaf people can do anything, except hear. They do not need pity and help, the only thing they need in order to be happy and fulfilled is equal access to information, communication, quality education and career opportunities through the use of information technologies.
